This course aims to… provide a fun, informative and supportive environment in which learners can learn a variety of skills in encaustic wax painting.
It is for… learners who want to unleash their creativity in an exciting medium.
During the course… learners will learn the techniques of encaustic wax painting, using an iron, hot air gun, scriber, hot brush, hot stylus etc. using coloured and metallic waxes.
Assessment will be... ongoing and constructive, helping learners to develop their own style after learning the basic techniques. Continuous assessment of learning will be by tutor observation and questioning.
By the end of the course… learners will be able to:
- Use the basic tools of encaustic wax painting
- Use techniques of encaustic wax painting to produce your own work
- Produce exciting abstract paintings, flowers, cityscapes, landscapes, seascapes, figures, still life, fantasy
- Think creatively and imaginatively in producing encaustic wax paintings
After the course… learners can build on these techniques and move forward to another course which develops individual style and creativity in this unusual medium.
Please bring… notepad and pen, Overall (not nylon). If you have them: encaustic wax iron / encaustic stylus / other heated tools / scriber / waxes / card. (These can be purchased from the tutor).
Additional costs: A starter kit will be available from the tutor (highly recommended).
This includes painting iron, coloured and metallic waxes, card and instruction booklet - cost £46.00. These kits have to be ordered so please contact the tutor if you want one at least a week before the beginning of the course (www.philmadley.com for further details of equipment).
Tutor profile: Phil Madley is a professional artist and designer, exhibiting and selling throughout Herts and Bucks. He is an enthusiastic tutor who provides a fun and supportive environment. Phil provides a structured and creative course that is both informative and exciting.
General information:
· There will usually be ample parking within the Abbey car parks. However, you may find it preferable to park on adjacent roads, as a charge of £3.00 per visit applies to learners attending courses Mon-Fri.
· On arrival, students should report to the main Abbey reception.
Refreshments:
· Self service tea, coffee and water will be available. A charge of 40p per cup will apply.

Unfortunately, children under the age of 16 cannot be accepted into any of our classes unless the course is designed for adults and children learning together.
